A Matter of Days is an “end-of-the-world” novel that I could not put down. A horrible virus wipes out nearly all human life and only those with a natural born resistance survive. Nadia and her brother are two of the few exceptions to this rule. Their uncle works as a disease-specialist for the military; he was able to develop an immunization that he gave them before the virus reached their home. Their mother refused the immunization, suspicious of its origins, and passed away. Now, Nadia and her brother are alone except for the instructions left to them by their uncle. They must reach their grandfather’s home to survive, but the journey will not be easy.
Nadia is smart, tougher than she looks, and a devoted sister to Rabbit, her brother. She steps up to face the challenges that her new life presents to her. Rabbit is the navigator with a great attitude. Although life is nearly impossible, he finds a way to keep smiling and to cheer up his older sister. The other two members of their team are Twawki, a dog that saved their life, and Zack, a boy with a shady past.
A Matter of Days is perfect for teens and adults alike. Except for a few friends who claim they don’t like science fiction, I think we all like thrilling books like this.
