This second novel in the Innocents series is filled with drama and action. If my high school days were this exciting, I doubt that I would have made it out alive. This review is going to be brief, but not because the book has little to write about. The complex plot is mysterious and dark; those who compare it to Pretty Little Liars are correct. A well-rounded cast of characters kept me on my toes and led me on a wild ride.
The main characters, Alice and Charlie, are sisters that were once best friends. When their lives were changing, their friendship was a constant. New boys and a new town are altering the sisters’ relationship... warping it. The sisters are close to learning a truth about their family, but this truth could prove to be dangerous.
This Side of Jealousy is a book that requires thought and has some content that younger readers might not be ready for. High school students, YA lovers, and fans of Pretty Little Liars are the perfect audience for Peloquin’s new novel. Lili Peloquin’s writing style is similar to that of Sara Shepherd, suspenseful and descriptive. Normally, this type of novel does not appeal to me, but the story combined with the rare writing talents of Peloquin had me rapt.
