Invisibility by Andrea Cremer and David Levithan

Posted on 10:00 PM by Unknown

Stephen has been invisible for practically his whole life — because of a curse his grandfather, a powerful cursecaster, bestowed on Stephen’s mother before Stephen was born. So when Elizabeth moves to Stephen’s NYC apartment building from Minnesota, no one is more surprised than he is that she can see him. A budding romance ensues, and when Stephen confides in Elizabeth about his predicament, the two of them decide to dive headfirst into the secret world of cursecasters and spellseekers to figure out a way to break the curse. But things don’t go as planned, especially when Stephen’s grandfather arrives in town, taking his anger out on everyone he sees. In the end, Elizabeth and Stephen must decide how big of a sacrifice they’re willing to make for Stephen to become visible — because the answer could mean the difference between life and death. At least for Elizabeth.

Goodreads Blurb

Many people go through life feeling unseen, but few truly are.  Stephen, unfortunately, actually is invisible.  A curse bestowed on his mother by his grandfather has left him impossible to see.  No one notices Stephen until Elizabeth moves into his New York apartment building.  Their romance grows as time passes, but upon learning his secret, Elizabeth ends the relationship.  With determination, grit, and help from his brother, Laurie, Stephen wins Elizabeth back.  They then decide to find the answer to Stephen’s curse and begin a journey into magic.
Both Cremer and Levithan are good authors; together, they are great.  Stephen is a character I want to hug; he has survived more than his share of pain and heartbreak.  Elizabeth is a sarcastic, opinionated girl with a unique ability.  At first glance, the two are an unlikely pairing, but the more I read, the more I could understand their relationship.
I would recommend Invisibility to fans of Andrea Cremer and David Levithan’s past books.  The combination of Cremer and Levithan’s writing styles is excellent.  Readers truly fall into the novel and do not resurface until the last page.
